Rebecca has long been erroneously called "Rebecca Husted" based on the misreading of Angell Husted's will. She has also assumed to have been Rebecca Sherwood, based on the misreading of another will (Jabez Sherwood's).[1]
We actually have no record of her maiden name and know her only as Rebecca. Her parents and place of birth are unknown. Birth date, 1635 is a guess, based on the birth date of her eldest child, born in about 1656.
Rebecca Was Not the Daughter of Angell Husted
Spencer Mead,[2] Rixford,[3] and others have assumed she was Rebecca Husted, a daughter of Angell Husted.
The error was based on the misunderstanding of Angel Husted's will in which he called Jonathan Reynolds his "son-in-law." Jonathan's wife's name was Rebecca, so "Rebecca Husted" was invented. As Remington points out, the term "son-in-law" was used as we use step-son today. In fact, Jonathan Reynold's widowed mother, Rebecca (Unknown) Reynolds, married as her second husband, and as his second wife, to Angel Husted, making Jonathan Reynolds the step-son of Angell Husted.[1] We have no primary evidence for the existence of a Rebecca Husted, and she is, for now, Rebecca Unknown.
Rebecca Was Not a Sherwood
Rebecca has also been incorrectly identified as Rebecca Sherwood, (daughter of Thomas and Alice (Tiler) Sherwood), but Gordon Remington argues this is chronologically impossible. Remington suggests this error has been prevalent since the 1950s, based on the misreading of the will of Jabez Sherwood. Mahler[4] operates under the same assumption.
Robert C. Anderson agrees, "Remington argues convincingly that Rebecca, the widow of Angell Husted, was Angell's second wife, that she had earlier been the wife of Jonathan Reynolds, that she was not mother of any of Angell's children, and that she was not Rebecca Sherwood."[5]
Marriages
Rebecca married twice.
She married by about 1655 to Jonathan Reynolds.[1] She and Jonathan had six known children together. He died in 1673. She married after 1673, as her 2nd, and as his 2nd, to Angell Husted.[1] She and Angell had no children together. Children

Death and Legacy
Rebecca was mentioned as "my dear & loving wife" in Angell Husted's will, written on 5 April 1706,[1] On 19 April 1706, Rebecca testified to the accuracy of the inventory, and on 26 April 1706, the will was probated.[1] So she died after that date, probably at Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Her place of burial is unknown.
