Biography Robert was part of the family of Robert Templeton Senior. He married Mary Hannah on 17 February 1785.

L. B. Templeton in his book on the Laurens County Templetons refers to the Robert in this profile as Senior, not realizing there was an elder Robert who was the family head. Robert Junior was too young to have received a land grant since one had to be 16 to own land. (South Carolina, A History, pages 53/54, by Walter Edgar and his footnote 16 for three references.) In 1772 Robert Junior was ten years of age. At 10, he could not have been a family head with three additional family members.

Information on Robert can be found in L. B. Templeton's book on the Laurens County Templetons.[1]

Robert appears in the 1790 and 1800 census records in Laurens County, SC.

Robert moved to Indiana with a group from Laurens County known as the Carolina Colony. The group also included Robert's brother John. They left in the spring of 1801. A descendant of John has written a nice article on the movement of the Carolina Colony from SC to Indiana and it can found at [6].

Robert's will is dated October 7, 1829, and can be found in Franklin County Order Book B, 1827-1834, p 115. The will was witnessed by sons Robert and David, and his son James was appointed as one of the executors. In the will, Robert mentions his wife Mary, his surviving children with two of his daughters by their married name. He mentions the widowed wife of his son William, stating William had four children and mentions three by name. Children listed in this profile are based on Robert's will, except for those who died prior to him making out his will. The inventory of Robert's estate is dated December 13, 1845. The inventory states his son Robert was one of the two individuals assigned as a administrator of the estate. However, the will mentions his son James as an executor of the will, not Robert.

Robert and his wife, Mary, are both buried in the New Fairfield Cemetery, Franklin County, Indiana, plot Community Section, Cemetery 5. Robert is in grave number 125 and Mary's is in 124.

Historical Note: Old cemeteries which would have been under Brookville Lake in Franklin County, Indiana, were moved when a dam was built and, in addition, tombstone data was recorded separately. The following is a quote regarding the movement: "In 1974 the United States Army Corps of Engineers built an earthen dam across the East Fork of the Whitewater River, right at the edge of Brookville. The purpose of the dam was flood control and storm water management, and it created the beautiful Brookville Lake. Trouble was, it covered the town of Fairfield with hundreds of feet of water and thus buried a lot of Franklin County history. It also would have drowned 13 pioneer cemeteries, but they dug up all the graves and moved them to higher ground. Most were moved to a cemetery at the top of the valley named "New Fairfield," which is also known as "Sims-Brier.

DAR Data: DAR data for Robert has a birth date of 9-6-1762, born in Ireland, and a death date of 11-10-1845 in Brookville-near Franklin Co., IN. It gives Robert's pension number as S32550, with service under Captains Kilgour (or Kilgore) and Lard. His service rank is given as a private. His wife is listed as Mary Hanna and residence at the time of service as Musgrove's Mill, 96 District, South Carolina.
