- Surmakuulutus: JÄRVALD, Roland 'Roni' - Passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at Ehatare Retirement Home, March 18, 2010 in his 95th year. Born in Narva-Joesuu, Estonia on September 3, 1915 to Juhan and Adele Jostman. Roni wore four different uniforms fighting for Finland and Estonia's freedom in WWII. He was a survivor of a Siberian prisoner of war camp and later a Merchant Seaman, sailing around the world. He settled in Toronto in 1951, where he married Elmire Kuus (predeceased 2000) and started his own business as a Painter and Decorator. They enjoyed their cottage and he generously gave his time to help build and maintain the Estonian Boy Scouts Camp at Muskoka, 'Kotkajärve' and 'Jõekääru' Children's Camp, Uxbridge. Sadly missed by his brother Bernhard ('Benno') Jostman, nephew Alan (Susan) and nephew Tiit and family in Estonia. Many close friends, Ehatare residents and staff will miss his humour and new daily jokes. Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday, March 23 from 10-11 a.m. at the YORK VISITATION CHAPEL AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 160 Beecroft Rd. (north of Sheppard Ave., 1 block west of Yonge St.), Toronto, 416-221-3404. Service will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel. As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the National Estonian Foundation of Canada.
