AVON, CT. The Hawley Family Society, an international family history/genealogy organization for Hawley family members and those interested in Hawley history, is holding their 8lst annual meeting in Avon on October 15, 2011. 35 to 40 people are expected to attend. They will be meeting in Farmington on Friday, October 14.

The Society’s visit coincides with the release of a book by Avon Town Historian Nora Howard. “Catch’d on Fire: The Journals of Rufus Hawley,” tells the story of long-ago Avon through the experiences of the minister. Based on the journals of Rev. Rufus Hawley from 1763-1812, the book is a rare glimpse of daily life from a firsthand observer.

The public is cordially invited by The Hawley Society to attend any or all of the events on Saturday, October 15: the book signing by Mrs. Howard, the luncheon, and the two related lectures. The programs will be held at the West Avon Congregational Church hall, at 281 Country Club Road. Drop-ins are welcome to the free lectures and book signing. The luncheon is $25 per person, and requires a reservation by September 30. Please contact: Trudy Hawley: (thawley444@Q.com) or at (651-739-5651). Reservations may be mailed to Ms. Hawley, with checks made out to The Hawley Society, at: 6842 Buckingham Court, Woodbury, MN. 55125.
