Notes
a. Note: It is not known where Samuel Waddy was prior to 1687, but by that date he had settled in New Kent Co VA. Samuel Waddy was paid by St. Peter's Parish for mending the seats of the the church in Oct 1687. In the same year, he helped clear land for a road. In 1689, he was included in a list of landowners for processioning. In Dec 1689, he supervised a carpenter who obtained timber for work at the church. In 1703, he was paid 1200 pounds of tobacco for taking care of James Turner who applied to the parish for support. (St. Peter's Parish)

The name of Samuel's wife is not known, but the names of his daughters may be clues to her name. The births of the younger children were recorded in the St. Peter's Parish Register. Two of the children died young and it is not known what happened to the three youngest daughters.

For some reason, Samuel is not included in the 1704 quit rent list for VA. Surely he owned land by this time. There is no name in the list even similiar to Samuel Waddy.

In 1704, St. Paul's Parish was formed from St. Peter's, so Samuel's service to the church and community continued there. Samuel was named in the St. Paul's Vestry Book 24 times for the years 1705-1723. He was paid 1200 pounds of tobacco for his continued care of James Turner for 1705-1707 until Turner died in 1708. In 1709 and 1719, Waddy's plantation was named in an order for a road to be cleared.

He also did work for the parish: 1706 "work done at the lower church," 1000 pounds of tobacco; 1707 unspecified work, 125 pounds; 1707 order for work to clear Pamunkey River on the south side; 1709 unnamed work, 150 pounds; 1712, 200 pounds; 1713 to clear the river again; 1716 "work done about the church," 40 pounds; 1720 paid 700 pounds "on account;" 1721 "to tar the church and rails," 500 pounds; and 1723 20 pounds "on account."

Meanwhile, Waddy was named in processioning records in 1709, 1712, 1716, and 1719. Other families in his precinct were named Pease, Marr, Guntin, West, all near the glebe land.

In 1721, Hanover County was created from the upper part of New Kent County. So, Samuel lived the end of his life in a new county.

In Jan 1726, Samuel gave his daughter Sarah Anderson some land. Though this deed is not extant, a later deed mentions this transaction. In Aug 1735, widow Sarah Anderson and her son John Anderson sold 80 acres "lying on Assacuin Run beginning at a corner tree at the mouth of a branch of said run, up said branch to a corner westerly to the place known by the name of James Tait's Path, along said path, same land which by deed-poll from Samuel Waddy Jan 28 1726 and was conveyed to said John Anderson Gent. and Sarah his wife and to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten forever which heir the said John Anderson, party to these presents is."

Sometime after Jan 1726, Samuel died about 73 years of age. Unfortunately, there is no surviving will. We also cannot know the history of his land transactions because many records of New Kent and Hanover counties are missing.

Because Samuel had only 2 known sons and one of them (Samuel) died young, all Waddy surnames in early Louisa County come through son Anthony Waddy.
