About Sarah Dearborn

Married to James Bowdoin III, and then re-married to Henry Dearborn after the death of her first husband. She is known for her diary that she kept during their time in Paris and in London, while her husband served for President Jefferson's administration.

Random Notes - In No Order - For Research Purposes She was the widow of Mr. [James] Bowdoin [III 1752-1811]. She never had any children. Originally had her born in Maine but the Olson Bowdoin Family Tree - found on Ancestry.com - Owner is krslaton - states she was born in North Hampton [Rockingham Co., NH. This was the birthplace of Henry Dearborn, according to his Find-a-Grave buial record. No mention at Find-a-Grave of Sarah's birthplace.] From History of Monmouth and Wales, by Harry Cochrane, page 53. She got his vast estates upon the death of her husband James Bowdoin. She was a lady of noble character, almost prodigal in her charities and donations. Her extreme wealth and accomplishment gained for her admittance to the highest society. Gen. Dearborn, after his marriage to her, left his home in Maine and resided with her, first at the celebrated Bowdoin Mansion in Boston, afterwards at Roxbury. The great love story of Sarah and Henry Dearborn are told in this book. She married her cousin. From the "Dearborns of Hampton, N.H." descendants of Godfrey Dearborn of Exeter and Hampton" Salem, Mass. 1893, which is from "History of Hampton, N.H." by Joseph Dow From Ancestry.com and the "Dora Flence Thomas..." family tree - owner is trish1389 - found Dec 2010 A copy of her her will is on the internet under "Some Account of the Bowdoin Family: with a notice of the Erving family. From "Some Account of the Bowdoin Family " found on the internet says she died May 24th 1826, will, e July 18th 1812 has a copy of her will. It is quite lengthly but does not include any mention of Dearborn or Kelleys, or Gen. Dearborn's family. From Ancestry.com and the rws family tree - owner is rwstoker - Found Dec 2010.
