WHITEHEAD, Sir (James) Beethom,
K.C.M.G., of Efford Park, Hampshire.—
Cr. 1909.
Second son of Robert Whitehead Esq., of Fiume,
Hungary, who d. 1905, by Frances Maria, who d. 1883,
dau. of the late James Johnson, Esq., of Darlington ;
b. 1858 ; m. 1896 the Hon. Marian Cecilia Brodrick,
youngest dau. of William, 8th Viscount Midleton,
and has, with other issue, a son, * George Robert
Beethom, temp. Lieut. R.A.S.C. ; b. 1897. Sir
Beethom Whitehead, who was educated in Austria
and at St. John's Coll., Cambridge (B.A. 1881, M.A.
1887), and entered the Diplomatic Service 1881, was
Secretary to H.M.'s Legations at Toliio 1898-1901
and at Brussels 1901-2, and to H.M.'s Embassies
at Constantinople 1902-3 and at Berlin 1903-4,
Counsellor of Embassy there 1904-6, and Envoy
Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at
Belgrade 1906-10 ; is a J.P. for Hampshire.— jB/ord

Travellers' Club, s.w. ; 26, Cheslmm Place, s.w.
Minister to Kingdom of Serbia 1906 to 1910. Painting in profile was painted 1907, while in Belgrade, with the decoration added in 1915.
