About Sir William Grierson of Lag, 2nd Baronet
Sir William Grierson of Lag, 2nd Baronet Grierson of Lag. was born circa 1677 at Rockall, Collin, Dumfries-shire, Scotland. He was the son of Sir Robert Grierson of Lag, 1st Bt. and Lady Henrietta Douglas. He married Ann Musgrave, daughter of Sir Richard Musgrave, 2nd Baronet Musgrave of Scaleby and Hayton, and Dorothy James, on 1 September 1720 at Aspartria, Cumberland, England. He died in 1760, without issue.
He was a Commissioner of Supply in 1704. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire [Scotland] from 1709 to February 1711. In 1715 he joined the Uprising, and was captured. He was pardoned in 1724. He was disinherited by his father, and did not inherit his estates. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Grierson, of Lag, co. Dumfries [N.S., 1685] on 15 April 1736.
While there were no children of his marriage to Ann Musgrave, it has been suggested that he had a liaison with Margaret Rankin, which produced a child in 1714. The child's name is not known.
