Sjur and Mette Tvedten Haaland and their nine children immigrated from Norway to America in the spring of 1846 and settled in Walworth County, Wisconsin. That fall, Sjur and their infant son died of Typhoid Fever.

"In 1846 Syver O. Haaland, wife and nine children, Hadle Evenson and wife Anne J. Fjösne, and Tostein H. and Osmond O. Högstul came to Skoponong, the latter two from Tuddal in Telemarken; the former were from Etne Parish in Söndhordland. Björn Holland of Hollandale, Wisconsin, who is a son of Syver Haaland,[312] writes me that they came on the ship Kong Sverre from Bergen.[313] In Ulvestad’s Nordmaendene i Amerika, page 56, appears an account of their first few weeks in the settlement and of S. Haaland’s sickness and death"



Son of Ole Haaland and Magdeli Eriksdatter Sjur Olesen Haaland and Mette Aamunsdatter Tvedten came to America in 1846 with 9 children eventually arriving in La Grange Wisconsin. Sjur went to Milwaukee to get winter supplies and came down with"bilious fever" and died 3 months after arriving in America. His youngest son Malachias also died at this time.

"Sjur Olsson f.l799. på Ytre Håjand (15b) utfl.1846 til Amerika med familien. Gift 1828 med Metta Åmundsdotter f. 1804 på Tveito (3a). Sjur fekk i 1827 kjøpa den vesle parten faren hadde ått i bruket. Ein ny part fekk han i 1829, i satmsvar med ein arvekontrakt som var sett opp på skiftet etter morfaren Erik Halldorsson Nernes i 1806. Sidan flytta faren til Mo i Vikedal. I 1830 gjorde dei avtale om at Sjur skulle fråfalla all arv etter faren, mot at faren på si side aldri skulle krevja kjøpesum for bruket på Håland. Bak desse transaksjonane ligg den kjensgjeminga at Ola Sjursson dreiv mykje med handel og streva med gjeld. Heller ikkje sonen Sjur greidde å få fast grunn under føtene. I 1846 makeskifte han bruket her med bruk 2 på Indre Håland. Men i staden for å flytta dit, reiste han og huslyden frå Etne i same farten. "
