Amateur lapidary work.
Although being in constant contact with electonics and receiving his fair share of electrical shocks and "RF" burns, TDB received a VERY high voltage shock while trying to put up a Amateur Radio "pipe" antenna tower that developed considerable whiplash and thereby came in contact with the highest lines on the backyard electric poles, (approximately 15,000 volts?) at 57 Donald Drive, Cheektowaga, Erie Cty., NY, USA about 1963. Son Curtis was on a wooden ladder & barely felt the shock, but father Tom had steam emanating from beneath the soles of his feet as the electricty discharged through him and into the wet ground. After disengaging themselves from this dangerous situation, Curtis asked his father how he felt. He staggered toward the house and replied, "not so good" (It took him 3 days to fully recover.) In light of the fact that TDB ALWAYS, even when he was sick (hardly ever) and even on his death bed, when asked how he was, would invariably reply, "great", conveys the degree of his personal physical distress after this shocking incident. Later they never spoke much of this incident, but it reveals the uncommon Bard resiliency of physique.
