Thomas Crump (1600-1655) was born in 1600 in Birchington, Kent, England, the child of William C. and Suzannah. He arrived in Jamestown in 1624 aboard the "Bonny Bess".* Soon after his arrival, he married Elizabeth Buck and they had five children together between 1626 and 1652. He then had one child from another relationship in 1633. Thomas Crump was a Sergeant in the English Army when he arrived. He was probably part of the military force that King of England sent when he dissolved the Virginia Company and made Virginia a royal colony. He was listed in the muster of January 24, 1625 as living with John West at James Cittie. On September 28th, 1635 Thomas Crump (Crompe) patented 500 acres of land in what is now New Kent County, 50 of the 500 acres where for his own personal use. Thomas Crump died in 1655 in New Kent, Virginia, at the age of 55. Drawing of the Jamestown fort cir. early 1600s.

notes

1) - According to e-mail received from Carolyn J. (Crump) Rozelle (erozelle.mail.koyote.com>, former editor of the Crump Newsletter:

ALthough it is tradionally stated that Thomas Crump was the original immigrant to America and that he married Elizabeth Buck, , Carolyn states that she believes that the immigrant was William Crump, who was transported to America when he was about 16 years of age, by Louis Burwell, and was refered to by him as "kinsman." She further states that she believes it was Bridget Buck, the widow of a Richard Crump, who married Thomas Crump.

William Crump, of New Kent Was not his son.

Stephen Crump Was not his son.
