About Capt. William Avery

William Avery was town clerk and treasurer of Groton from Jan. 27, 1768, until his death in 1787. During the Revolution he served on many war committees.

William married (1) Hannah WOODBRIDGE, daughter of Paul WOODBRIDGE and Sarah GOODRICH, on 16 Mar 1775 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. Hannah was born 19 Mar 1743 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. She died 8 Apr 1831 in Ledyard, New London Co., Connecticut.


They had the following children:

1733 F i Sarah AVERY was born 16 Jan 1776 in Gorton, New London Co., Connecticut. She died 29 Mar 1808 in Groton, New London Co., Connecticut.

Sarah married Ezekiel BAILEY, son of Ezekiel BAILEY, after 29 Nov 1806 in Connecticut. Ezekiel was christened 8 May 1763 in 1st Church of Groton, Groton, New London Co., Connecticut.
