Attended The Choctaw Academy was established in Scott County, KY in 1838.

"William B. Pitchlynn according to a court case in the Chickasaw records, William B. Pitchlynn married Elsie the daughter of She-Mo-Ti-Ci-Cha and they had three children. William B. Pitchlynn was politically active in the tribe and a lot of history is in his family. This William B. Pitchlynn and Elsie were the parents of my grandmother Melvina Pitchlynn Sittel. There is a file I believe at the University Western History Library on Sittel’s. In some way Sittel and William B Pitchlynn were involved in founding the town of McAlester and one of their oldest residents, Peter P. Pitchlynn was my great grandfathers uncle and served as Chief of the Choctaw from 1864 to 1866. He moved to Eagletown in 1834 and opened a large plantation on the east bank of the Mountain Fork River near his brother-in-law. Calvin Howell. He was active in Choctaw government and had a part in creating all the Choctaw constitutions. He was the major author of the Choctaw National Educational Act of 1842, which established a national school system. Peter P. Pitchlynn represented the Choctaws in Washington for almost a quarter of a century. He died there and is buried in the Congressional Cemetery. I’m sorry I can’t remember or find more information. Mother didn’t always write things down, and she and dad have been dead a long time and I can’t remember as good as I used to. For the life of me I can’t find my brothers or any roll no. Any place.. I remember mother saying she had to take time to get my brother Farish registered before they stop enrolling the children. My parents had seven children.

Six boys and me. James my older brother I cant remember the year he was born it seems he was 2 years older than I, is deceased. My birthday is March 13 1919. Farish born 1921 now deceased. Estul born 1924 now deceased. Thomas born 1928 lives in Van Buren Ark."

William B. Pitchlynn is listed elsewhere on the internet as being the son of John Pitchlynn and brother of Peter P. Pitchlynn, Jr. This is incorrect. He was the grandson of John who is mentioned in his will as the son of Joseph.

Ans: Was acquainted with Show-mah-chi-che.

Quest: Was Show-ma-chi-che a man or woman? Ans: A man.

Quest: Did he have any children? Ans: Yes Sir, the woman's names are, Shim-a-tic-cha, Che-wone, Pa-ley-a, one son Ah-yar-ho-tubby. Che-wone had two children Josey LeFlore, Abernezer Willis Fulsom's children Arnold, Mary, Frank. Pa-ley-a died no heirs. Ah-yar-ho-tubby had one son name Joe Brown, one daughter name not known had two children names not known. I recollect now, her name was Shim-mah-ni-ya, her children's names I don't recollect. Josey LeFlore, Abenezer and Joe Brown are all living.

Quest: Is these only heirs now living? Ans: Yes Sir.

Quest: Are these children of age? Ans: Arnold is a married man and Mary is a married woman. Frank is about of age now. These are Willis Fulsoms children.

Bill Pitchlynn & wife had three two children, Joe Pitchlynn, Sim Pitchlynn, Mrs. Buck Riddle. Joe has three children. Sim Pitchlynn no children. Mrs. Buck Riddle has one child Loren.

Quest: Did he have any children, if so what's their names? Ans: Sho-mo-tic-cha had three children, name are Isreal McLish and Isaac McLish and one name forgotten. Che-wo-ne's children name Arnold Fulsome, Isaac Folsome, Mary Fulsome. Pal-e-ya's children's names Josey LeFlore, Ebnezer, Jenney. Shim-a-ni-ya's childrens names Simon, Silina dead one child, Liza-an McLain, Ah-yar-lo-tubby one son Joe Brown. Bill Pitchlynn married Jenney in family. But I don't know how many children they had.

Quest: Do you know how many children your sister Jenney had? Ans: She had three, one name Lyman Fulsom, two girls names not known. Jenney married Tom Fulsom. Bill Pitchlynn married Elsey the daughter of She-mo-tic-cha and George McLish daughter. They had three children but don't know their names.

Report of Capt. William B. Pitchlynn, First Choctaw and Chickasaw Regiment, of engagement at Chusto-Talasah. FORT DERDANE, Cherokee Nation, January 18, 1862. SIR: I have the honor to submit a brief report of the engagement in which the company [of which] I am honored to be captain fought so successfully on Bird Creek, Cherokee Nation, December 9, 1861. When orders were given to make a charge our point of attack was made a distance near half a mile above the old cabin, at the mouth of a certain ravine, and there we remained and fought desperately nearly an hour, when the firing of the enemy partially ceased. At this time we had orders to move and attack in the direction of the old cabin, where we remained the balance of the day. The mode of warfare adopted by the enemy compelled us, as you are aware, to abandon strict military discipline and make use of somewhat similar movements in order to be successful. At the close of the battle we took our proper place in the regiment, according to orders, and found one of my company fatally wounded, who expired on the second night after the baffle. Two horses and equipments were lost in the engagement. I will merely state that my men fought bravely and gallantly. I have the honor to be, your obedient servant, WM. B. PITCHLYNN, Capt. Co. BIO: William Boykin Pitchlynn was born about 1823. John Pitchlynn's will of October 1833, left this gift to William: "Seventhly, to my beloved grandson, William the following slaves, Viz, Peggy, Toney, and Edd, to remain in the possession of my beloved wife, Sophia, until the said William is twenty one years old, and on that day to enter his possession." <p> William served in the Choctaw Regiment as a Captain during the Civil War. The rolls list him as a 1st Lieutenant of Company A, 1st Regiment Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles on July 26, 1861 having joined the Confederated States Army on July 8, 1861 at Perryville, Arkansas. He appears as a Captain of the same unit at Fort McLenlloch(?) on June 21, 1862. It seems his unit was assigned to Camp Granite from July 4, 1862 through June 30, 1863 where he was on leave from May 26, 1863 to at least July 4, 1863. Apparently after the war William became interested in coal. He signed a Power of Attorney giving Fritz Sittel the right to sign for him in their shared coal interests in 1889. The year before they had bought a coal mining company from Edward Sittel (February 22, 1888). In the 1880's he became a Judge in Tobusky County, Choctaw Nation which is present day Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. William apparently married three times - first to Rhoda (?), second to Emma McLeish, who was part Chickasaw and third to Hannah (Kreiger) Switzer, a widow, who was born in Germany. He died July, 1889.
