About William Randolph McKee
William R. McKee along with his brothers James McKee and Anthony McKee were in the same company in the War of 1812. In a letter of Earl G.Darby, Manhattan, Kansas. William R.McKee official war records show he was born April 14,1783 and was married July 2,1805 near Cincinnati.
=======================
William was the first or one of the first born children of James and Sarah (GUESS) McKEE. Ms. Taunton gives specific data on his birth. Because his marriage is not from the Butler Co. Records, it is probable that they were married where Elizabeth lived. (Hamilton Co. ??)
William is listed as Head of Household in Butler in 1820. At that time, he listed 10 children under age 16. William and his wife are both enumeratedin the age "26-45" category.
At time of death, William owned only a $2.50 gold piece which was deducted from allotment for burial given to his son, Aaron.
William McKee's powder horn with his name on it is now in the possession of his ggggrandson, William R. McKee.
The CASTENS, in the data included in their descendent book of William McKEE, list eleven children born to William R. and Elizabeth McKEE.
Per "Descendants of James McKee, Jr. and Sarah Guess," found in the Porter County, IN Public Library,"... William R. enlisted in the War of 1812 as substitute for William F. Bartlow in Troy, Miami Co., Ohio 4 Sept. 1813 according to one bounty land affidavit, and at Lebanon, Warren Co., O. according to another, as private and fifer in Capt. Timothy Titus' Company of Ohio Militia. I believe the Warren Co. location is correct as son Jeremiah, was born there in 1811 and the family did not move to Miami Co. until 1827 according to McDonough Co. Illinois 1885 History..."
William R.'s family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, area ca. 1794-96 (the lower Mississippi River had been opened to traffic by Spain which allow greater trade opportunities). As he said in the McDonough Co. 1885 History that he moved when a young boy and a James MCKee is on the tax list in Fayette Co. Pa. until 1794, but youngest brother, Anthony Wayne, according to 1860 census of Fulton Co., Ind. says he was born in Pa. in 1795, but Fulton Co History says he was born in Butler Co., O. William R. married 2 July 1805 ELIZABETH MILLS near Cincinnati....
