Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vaughn-2030

William Vaughn [or Vaughan] was likely born about 1720, his parentage and exact place/date of birth are not known. William frequently appears in genealogies with the middle initial "T" but there are no sources to support this initial was used by him, or represents his middle name (he signed with his mark).

William settled in Lunenburg County which became Mecklenburg County when it was formed (1756 Land Patent). His will was dated 20 March 1785 and witnessed by Thomas Parker, Elizabeth Parker and Stith Thompson. It was proved in Mecklenburg County, Virginia February 1786 so it is surmised he passed away in early 1786 (Mecklenburg Will Book 2, p. 149).

William named his wife Mildrege in his will. Her maiden name prior to marriage is not proven. She appears to have married William as a widowed Milderidge Gregory (Will of Milderidge Vaughan, Proved 10 Oct. 1791 Mecklenburg Will Book 3 p. 79).

William Vaughn named the following children in his will;

  1. Samuel Vaughn
  2. John Vaughn
  3. James Vaughn
  4. Peter Vaughn
  5. Millison Overbey
  6. Nancy Gregory
  7. Sally Gregory
  8. Moley Hays
  9. Millie Chandler
  10. Elizabeth Vaughn
