Hannah was the daughter of James Higgins and Sarah Stout. She married Samuel Van Hook on October 10, 1752, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. They were the parents of ten children.

On June 24, 1780, Hannah was killed in the Massacre at Ruddlle's Station. She was buried along with the other victim's in the Lair Family Vault. Her husband, Samuel, and several children were taken prisoners during the siege.

Henry [Hendrick] Van Hook b. 19 Feb 1701 in Albany, Ny who married Deborah Parent. Their son, Samuel b. 15 November 1733, married Hannah Higgins. Unfortunately Hannah was killed and scalped. Samuel and Benjamin had been captured and were taken to Detroit by Indians and remained there for 4 years and 2 months. When Samuel and Benjamin returned he discovered she had been killed. He remarried to a widow, "Hannah" Wilson Williams. This info is in Collins HISTORY OF KY, according to a Dorris Easley Estes in her book, Joseph Whiteley, Sr., of Whitehaven, England and His American Descendants.
