About Walter Devereux, MP
Confirmation of parentage of Sir Walter, son of Sir Walter Devereux of Bodenham, NOT Sir William:
There are many sources which have been published over many years which have conflated Sir Walter Devereux the father with Sir Walter Devereux the son. Three records exist which prove that this Sir Walter, who died in 1401 after the Battle of Bryn Glas, was the son of Sir Walter Devereux (ca. 1335-after 25 October 1382) and Maud rather than Sir William Devereux and Anne Barre.
(1) In a January, 1371 record in the Devereux Papers currently held at Longleat House, The National Archives of Great Britain Discovery (online) records the following:
"Notification by the Commissary General in the Archdeaconry of Brecknock of the annulment of the marriage of Walter, son of Sir Walter Devereux (Deveros), and Margaret, daughter of Walter Seys."
(2) In a 8 February 1382 record in the Calendar of the Patent Rolls for the reign of Richard II, it states the following:
"Commission to Nicholas de Audeley, John de Burley the elder, Richard de Burley, Walter Deveros, Roger Berde, Walter Deveros the younger and Simon de Brugge, sheriff of Hereford, to arrest William Solers, outlawed in that county for not appearing before the justices of the Bench to satisfy the King"
(3) In a 25 October 1382 record in the Calendar of the Close Rolls for the reign of Richard II, it states the following:
"Walter Devereux, knight, Walter his son, John Devereux knight, and John de Bureley knight to John de Crophulle knight. Recognisance for 400l., to be levied etc. in Heretfordshire."
(4) The History of Parliament Online confirms that Sir Walter was the father of Sir Walter Devereux, MP.

The following history on the Devereux family is from various sources including
"Medieval English Ancestors of Robert Abell"
01. Sir Walter Devereux, of Bodenham, Weobley and Whitchurch in Herefordshire, died 25 June 1402. He married in 1383/4 Agnes Crophull, who married second John Parr of Kendal, and married third John Merbury, as his third wife. She was sole heiress of Weobley, and received Lyonshall late in life. She died 3 Feb. 1436. He was a commissioner from 1382, and Constable of Builth Castle in Radnorshire from 8 Feb. 1382 for about twelve years. From 9 Nov. 1385 he served many terms as justice of the peace in Herefordshire. He was a king's esquire in the expedition to Scotland in 1385. He received Weobley in 1386 on proff of age of his wife. Apparently he did not support King Richard II during the political crisis of 1387-1388, but he was knighted by 1391 and did go to Ireland with Richard II in Sept. 1394. He served as Sheriff of Herefordshire in 1401, the year he was a Member of Parliament. He was a member of Sir Edmund Mortimer's expedition to Radnorshire, and was wounded when the English were defeated by the Welsh at the battle of Pilleth on 22 June 1402, and died three days later on June 25, 1402. His wife Agnes Crophull was, by her second husband John Parr, the great-great-grandmother of Katherine Parr, the last wife of King Henry VIII.
