When searching old newspapers on Trove the "poundkeeper" notices often come up. These are invaluable as a genealogical resource for finding those employed, either full time, or as a local service as "The Poundkeeper".

This person impounds stray animals, they advertise the beast as found, with a full description and a date where the animal no longer belongs to the owner.

What we have is a list of these gentlemen, and the district they served, usually lived in, and proof that they were alive and where they were living and the names/descriptions of those areas, some names do not exist now. Also as in the town Truro, it is now evident that it was a mining town named by Cornish - 'Truro, near wheal Barton mine."
