  • Gottlieb Ferdinand Welke for a house at the foot of the Fourth Hill, on the road to Balhannah.
  • John Magor applied for a licence for the White Hart, in the township of Kooringa, but was refused on account of insufficiency of accommodation.

1866

QUARTERLY LICENSING DAY. LOST LICENCES.

Applications respecting lost licences were made by Mr. Cullen on behalf of Josephine Coombs, formerly Ingham, of the Gasworks Hotel, Bowden, and Mr. Matthew Linn, of the Commercial Hotel, Strathalbyn. Fresh certificates were directed to issue in each case.

TRANSFERS— PUBLICANS' LICENCES.

  • 1. Robert Hyde to Henry Bentley, Prince of Wales Hotel, Moonta. Granted.
  • 2. George Bryant, deceased, to Mary Bryant, Normanville Hotel, Normanville.
  • 19. Mary Bryant, insolvent, by the Official Assignee, to David Wilson, Normanvflle Hotel, Normanville. In these cases Mr. Cullen intimated that the sureties in application 2 wished to withdraw their names. Mr. Strangways supported the application of Mrs. Bryant, and contended that the Official Assignee had no locus standi in that Court, inasmuch as he was not in possession; nor had the necessary notices required by the Act been given by him, although they had been given by Mrs. Bryant. Mrs. Bryant's application was granted, No. 19 being struck out the applicant not appearing.
  • 3. F. V. Moyle, deceased, to Charles Cowper, Sir John Franklin HoteL,Kapunda. Granted.
  • 4. Mathew Linn to George Darbon, Commercial Hotel, Strathalbyn. Granted.
  • 5. Henry Bentley to Thomas Ferguson, Commercial Hotel, Wallaroo. A letter bearing testimony to the good conduct of the applicant was read, and the application was granted.
  • 6. William Hubble to Harriet Forbes, Criterion Hotel, Adelaide. Granted.
  • 7. Robert Hart, deceased, to Emma Hart, Teatrea Gully Hotel, Teatree Gully. Adjourned for a fortnight, the applicant not being in attendance.
  • 8. James Saunders to August Klauer, Clarendon Hotel, Hindley-street. Mr. Bundey appeared for the applicant, but the application was adjourned foi a fortnight.
  • 9. Charles Lewin, deceased, to Elizabeth Lewin, Green Dragon, Hanson-street. Mr. Parker supported the application. Adjourned for a fortnight.

  • 1. William Roberts to Enoch Steevens, Redruth. Adjourned, the applicant not appearing.

NEW APPLICANT.

  • 1. Elizabeth Bowen, Lord Exmouth Hotel, Lefevre's Peninsula. Mr. Cullen presented a numerously signed memorial in favor of the applicant. A favorable police report was also read. Mr. Mathews attended, but Mr. Cullen objected to his appearance in the case, inasmuch as notice of opposition had not been sent in in time, and the objection was allowed. Mr. Knapman, of Port Adelaide, said he built the house, which was licensed to him for three years, and it was only discontinued when he took another house. The licence was granted on the understanding that another room should be built.

NEW HOUSE.

  • 1. W. V. Brown, junior, Travellers' Rest, the Hummocks. Granted.
  • 2. Edmund Churchett, Prince Albert Hotel, Victoria Township, near Kapunda. Mr. Cullen presented a respectably signed memorial in favor of the applicant, and the application was granted on the condition that the balcony should be finished.
  • 3. William Hitch, Menningie Hotel, Lake Albert. Adjourned for a fortnight on the application of Mr. Cullen.
  • 4. Michael Kenny, Railway Hotel, Freeling. Mr. Cullen presented a memorial from the Magistrates of the district, recommending the applicant as a fit person.
