About the Bebek surname

BEBEK

BEBEK

Bebek comes from the word for crimson. The people named Bebek come from the old Biokovo tribe Bašić, from the village Raščane. Over time they were divided into Bašić, Kovačević, Ožić and Bebek. In the old parish registers in Raščane often were written two surnames Ožić aka Bebek, which later separated into two separate surnames Ožić and Bebek. In Herzegovina, Bebek was first mentioned in 1742 in Vojnić where Bishop Pavo Dragičević found two households, including: Petar Bebek with 10 members and Ante Bebek, whose family numbered 3 members. In Vojnić, from Bebek came a new name Živkušić. The name Živkušić was started by Paško Bebek from Vojnić who married Antica Zivković from the neighboring village Banja. Antica was named nicknamed Živkuša, from which her descendants got the nickname Živkušić, which grew steadily over nearly 200 years. In 1897, Matija the daughter of Pavla Bebek from Klobuk and Mate Petrović was baptized.
