Fernandus van Sycklen was born about 1618 in Sycklen, Holland (van Sycklen="of Sycklen). He came to Flatlands, Long Island in 1652, and moved again to Gravesend, L. I. (The English took the New Netherland colony, including New Amsterdam and Long Island from the Dutch in 1664.) He married Antonis Jansen in 1660 and died around 1712. Their children were Reinier, Margaret, Eve, Johannes, Jannetjo, Ferdinand, Cornelia, and Susanna. Reinier's son Cornelius appears to have Anglicised the name to van Sickle.
