A member of the prominent Finnish-Swedish Nordenskiölds family, Adolf was one of the most internationally famous Finnish scientists. In 1878, he led the Vega Expedition, which would make history as the first Arctic expedition to navigate through the Northeast Passage. It was also the first voyage to circumnavigate Eurasia.
