Family Tree Tuesday – George Clooney

Oscar winning actor and director George Clooney is best known for his roles on the television show ER and movies such as Ocean’s Eleven, Syriana and Good Night, and Good Luck which he co-wrote and directed. Clooney has also devoted much of his time to his humanitarian work, raising awareness for the conflict in Darfur and raising funds for several recent natural disasters throughout the world.

Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 to parents Nick and Nina Clooney. His mother was a former beauty queen, while his father was a well known anchorman and game show host. In 2004, Nick Clooney ran unsuccessfully for a seat representing Kentucky in the House of Representatives.

George’s aunt, Rosemary Clooney was also a highly successful actress and singer, who is best known for co-starring with Bing Crosby in the holiday classic White Christmas. In 2002, Rosemary was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition for her contributions to the music industry. She was once married to Puerto Rican actor, José Ferrer, who was the first Hispanic actor to win an Academy Award.

Following in their parents’ footsteps, their sons, Miguel and Rafael Ferrer, have also enjoyed a successful careers in the entertainment industry as actors. Their son Gabriel, went on to marry singer Debbie Boone, who is a descendant of the famous American explorer and frontiersman, Daniel Boone.
