Happy birthday, Laura Linney! Today the Emmy Award winning actress turns 52. Laura Leggett Linney was born on February 5, 1964 in New York. Her father was well known playwright, Romulus Zachariah Linney IV.

She graduated from Brown University in 1986 and studied acting at the Juilliard School. Linney started out in minor film and television roles such as Lorenzo’s Oil, Dave and General Hospital. Her big breakthrough was her role in The Truman Show as Jim Carrey’s on-screen wife.

She has won four Emmy Awards  – Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for Wild Iris, Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Frasier, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for John Adams and another Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for The Big C: Hereafter. She has been nominated for an Academy Award three times for her roles in You Can Count on MeKinsey and The Savages. Linney is also a Broadway actress who has been nominated three times for a Tony Award in the category of Best Actress in a Play for her work in The Crucible, Sight Unseen and Time Stands Still.

Her latest role was playing Mrs. Munro in the film Mr. Holmes.
