John Howard if a many generations great grandfather of my wife through her descent from his daughter Margaret who married Sir John Wyndham. He is also my fourth cousin 19 times removed through my paternal grandmother's line.

Nov 12, 1485—Sir John Howard, Duke of Norfolk was reburied. He was the grandson of Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk and a descendant of Sir Nicholas Segrave, 1st Baron Segrave about whom I just posted.

He was a member of Parliament in 1455. He served in the war in France in 1452 and 1453. He was a zealous Yorkist and was knighted by King Edward IV at the battle of Towton on March 29, 1461. He held many important appointments under Edward IV. He was made Knight of the Garter in 1472. By the death of his cousin, Anne Mowbray, he inherited a great portion of the Mowbray estates.

In 1483 he bore the royal banner at the funeral of Edward IV and later that same year was created Duke of Norfolk. He was high steward for the coronation of Richard III.

He led the van of archers at the battle of Bosworth where he was slain on 22 Aug 1485. He was buried at Leicester and his body later (12 Nov 1485) moved to Thetford.
