Ann Brooks (Guppy), SM/PROG - Origin of the Guppy reference

I am interested in the information source suggesting Ann Brooks was born Ann Guppy. I am descendant from William Brooks who sailed to SA with Ann aboard the Zoroaster in 1820. I have been looking into the family tree. William Brooks (b1786) had a 5th child, Bernard, not mentioned in any of the settler lists or ships logs. William Brooks' first wife died in 1818 in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Bernard Brooks (d1879) is buried in Grahamstown & his gravestone says he was born in Leafield, Oxon. We have a family bible given to Bernard by his Grandmother Jane Harris. The bible indicates that Ann is Jane's daughter. So, I'm interested to know where the name Guppy comes from??

Dear Peter,
The name Ann GUPPY was sourced from the website i.e. www.familiebande.co.za. It is possible she was married before.
I am very interested to know more about Bernard Brooks and what you know about this family and to follow up on Ann. Did Bernard marry and have children?
