Mike Stangel I have another complaint about the middle name not showing in Profiles, this profile Abraham Isaac Haringman I can see
This is what I see
Profile View name (just to right of photo........'Abraham Isaac Haringman'
Display Name (the uppermost name) 'Abraham Isaac Haringman'

Tree View

Now if I change my language to The Display name looks the same with middle name the profile name is same with middle name but now look at tree view, no middle name.

I meant if I change my language to anything but English (US)

Angus,

I see the middle name in tree view with language English but also with language Dutch. So it may depend on settings and/or chosen language.

Private we do not need a Discussion Adninistrator, we have been discussing these issues throughout this discussion. Please let Mike help us. again you are causing distractions.

Angus Wood-Salomon and Private User - better now?

Looks good in all languages thanks

Mike Stangel,

Sorry to be off topic, but just noticed it again.
Why is the 'tree' choice in tree view for a profile not available in all languages? (it is missing in Dutch).
That is the main reason my language setting in English (US). And that makes it more difficult to add Information in the correct language in the profile.

Job Waterreus the flash app hides the tree link if the translations for "edit" and "more" leave no room for the translation for "tree". In these cases you should see it on the "more" menu.

Yes thank you Mike!

Mike,

It shows now, thanks

Mike Stangel,

I was looking at a tree where I have no edit rights.
It works for Dutch when no edit is shown, but in a menu with edit, tree, more the translation for tree is missing (it is not in the more menu).

Job Waterreus there is such a thing as "view tree" permission, though it usually goes hand-in-hand with the "view profile" permission that would grey-out the tree node and remove all menus anyway. If you think there's a bug here, let me know what tree you were looking at and I'll investigate.

Mike Stangel,

One example: http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000021096065110
When the language is Dutch I see 'bewerk' and 'meer'
The meer menu shows 'Voeg naaste familie toe', 'Verplaats deze persoon', 'Duplicaten oplossen' and 'Sluiten'
This is a profile Is part of the World tree.

An example where I do see the 'boom' menu:
http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000022421612786
The is a separate tree.
The 'boom' menu is on the profiles (not on the 'meer' menu), so there is enough space to show it there.

So it looks like a bug for profiles on the Word tree.

If I remember correctly Geni have to set manually which language that includes the tree option, - it does not help to change your translation to shorter words to fit it once set.

Bjørn,

Thank for the information. I use the standard Dutch setting and do not change the translation and I do use the same setting for both examples above.
So may be the setting you mention is only for the Word tree?
I hope Mike can solve this, because it is not user friendly to have to switch the language every time I want to enter something in Dutch in the about me and then switch it back to English to navigate the tree.

The separate tree does not show a 'bewerk' menu and 'bewerk' is one character longer than 'edit' so it could be a space issue. But then the 'boom' menu should be visible on the 'meer' menu. So it still seems a bug.

@job you don't have permission to edit the profiles in the standalone tree, so the "bewerk" (edit) link does not appear on those nodes -- this leaves room for the "boom" (tree) link. In the big tree, you have edit permission so that link takes precedence over the tree link. The bug, however, is that whenever the tree link is hidden from the face of the node, it should appear in the "meer" (more) menu. We'll get that fixed.

Mike,

Thanks.

Job Waterreus I've release a fix for this -- when there's not enough room for the tree link on the face of the node, you should now find it as the first menu option on the "more" pull-down menu.

Mike Stangel,

Yes, it works.
Thanks again.

Hi,

I was just browsing your site and wanted to check if i could trace my family tree a while back and to do that i had to give my credit card number. I had done this on 13th Feb 2018. I just received a message that my credit card was charged USD 119.40 which I have not authorized.

Please refund the amount at the earliest. Contact me for any queries

Thanks,

Eric Fernandes - You can do practically anything you might want to do as a Basic - ie non-paying - member of Geni. And for that they do not ask for your Credit Card Number.
They only ask for your credit card number if they are charging you for something.
So clearly you inadvertently agreed to pay for something.
Hopefully you will be able to get it reversed -- BUT - posting in a Public Discussion is not likely to do it.

Did they charge you for a Geni-Pro Membership, or for a MyHeritage Data Subscription?
Before pursuing further the request for a refund, you should probably find out which it was, and be sure you do not want it.

Did you perhaps sign up for the Free Trial, and not Cancel? If so, this might provide info you are now looking for:

Or this provides links to the above, plus additional info:

Thank you for your quick response Lois. I apologize for for posting my message on a public forum, I assumed it would reach a grevience redressal department to help me out as i could not find a contact number for complaints. Honestly I panicked as I needed to make some payments and my card was charged unexpectedly and just looked for customer complaints to raise one before it got too late.

To give you some further background, as I was browsing, I reached my family tree and when i went to view it, I was asked for a free trial and my CC details and $1 was charged which I was aware of, but I was not fine with automatically charging me for a Gene Pro membership.

Your response was very helpful and I need to cancel the Gene Pro membership and get my refund so I will go with:

I am having trouble accessing any project. I am getting a message about some publicity? Can anyone help me? Chris L.Mathews

Hi Private User, we're very fortunate to have received an incredible amount of press regarding the publication of research based on Geni's data, in the very prestigious journal Science. You can read more about it on our blog at https://www.geni.com/blog/research-based-on-genis-world-family-tree...

Fortunately and unfortunately this has resulted in traffic to our site many times more than what we're able to keep up with. If we'd only gotten 5 times the normal amount of traffic on Geni we could have handled it... so that gives you an idea of what we're dealing with. We've been working practically around the clock to add capacity and rebalance our resources to handle the load, but obviously we're still struggling to keep up.
