John Williams born 1759, Died August 30, 1833 in Simpson Co, Ky. Married Judith King in 1786. Children were William J. Williams born in 1792 at Fort Station Camp in Sumner Co, Tenn who married Martha Lane; John W. Williams who married Nancy Lane; Henry C. Williams and Alfred M. Williams; a daughter Caroline and possible others. Major John Williams died at his residence in Simpson Co, Ky in his 74th year. He was in the Battle of Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth, besides other battles and skirmishes of less magnitude. He entered the Revolutionary War at the age of 16.
He was amongst the earliest pioneers of the West and was a sharer in the difficulties that occurred to the early settlers on Cumberland in the neighborhood of Nashville, and Gallatin from the Hostile Savages when the Fort at Greenville was attacked by about 300 Indians, there being only a few men, women & children in the Fort, he was one of the patriotic little band that hastened to their relief. In the late war (referencing War of 1812) volunteered his services in the defense of his country and was chosen to command a company of horsemen, under General Hopkins against the northwest Indians.
He was ten years in the Senate of Kentucky, from Warren Co. (1803-1813) He was a useful and orderly member of the Baptist Church. he was an affectionate husband, a kind parent and neighbor. His virtues will long be cherished by numerous friends and acquaintances.

THIS John Williams is NOT John Pugh William who was a Col during the Rev War and died in 1803 NC. This John Pugh Williams married Jane Davis b 1756 and d 28 Jul 1818 NC. She was the daughter of Jehu Davis and Elizabeth Eagles and she had 3 daughters with John Pugh Williams. This info is all available online and at any library.
Gloria Jean Hubbs Shay. I wrote the biography submitted to Ancestry which has been altered with the name PUGH put into the middle of the Pvt John Williams name. THIS IS INCORRECT to my feeble knowledge
