I have watched the reported Haplogroup of one of the Kits I manage change as a result of FTDNA policy - if I understand correctly, from the base Haplogroup to a guess based on folks who match them and had done SNP testing and then back to base Haplogroup as FTDNA decided not to guess beyond base haplogroup.
So if that person uploaded to two versions of his profile, the results would not match.
The haplogroups listed do not look like a base haplogroup to me -- which would mean they are a result of SNP testing, not what level STR testing was done.. Could have been one SNP pack or another SNP pack or an individual SNP test or another.
I am thinking if they did one of the BigYs, that would have been listed - quite sure SNP packs or individual SNP tests are not.
Moreover, mutations do happen, so even if all three are descendants of the same ancestor and tested the exact same set of SNPs it is totally possible the results will not be identical.
Very likely, as I understand it, that 4th cousins will not be exactly the same - that is why they include as matches on the STR tests - Y37 think up to four steps different, not just exact -- Y67, think up to 7,, and not sure how many mutations accepted as match in Y111.
I have one second cousin with same direct paternal great grandfather as my father. I talked him into letting me buy a FF and Y67 for him several years ago, promised I would not update without his permission. Asked as they offered SNP packs that would not even have required any more sample and he always said no. Now would like a Y700 - which would update his STRs to 111 and test a whole lot (700?) SNPs - which from what I have read, FDTNA would probably want a new sample for - if he is not willing to okay a test that only requires him to say ok, how likely is it he will ok a test requiring a new sample? Fear he will say No and stop talking to me; trying to figure out how to convince him or at least ask without pissing him off. But I keep reading about Y, trying to understand about the topic.
