I have a very long list of ancestors from Mlada Vozice and Prague and Prana. I am not able to connect with any descendants which is what I wanted. How come? I don't understand. Just look at my tree and you will see.
I am also not able to find any information or knowledge of my Bohemian ancestors. No books, or pictures or any thing about what their every day life, customs, traditions would of been like as Jews. I don't even know what they would of worn or what they would of read as jews. I don't know anything. I thought I would be able to gain some knowledge from here.
I am NOT complaining, I am lost. I want to read what they read particularly. I want to learn their customs.
If there is anyone here that knows anything about Bohemian Jews, please contact me. I am so stuck.
Hi Sandra,
Let's start with your tree. Your tree is connected to the Geni Big Tree.
And we, you and me, are somewhat distantly related. And my family also came from Bohemia, which is the western part of the Czech Republic bordering with Austria.
But for some reason you only entered your mother, grandmother and ggrandmother. Not many males in your tree. We could be much closer related if Geni could search including all the males, like your father and both your grandfathers etc.
Once you entered those names, I am sure you will discover many more relatives.
You can find descendants of your ancestor Bernard Synek .
For instance, look at the descendants of Antonia Rosenbaum (nee Synek) Antonia Anna Rosenbaum
Similarly Antonia's siblings also have living descendants.
For some branches, indeed there may not be living descendants in part as a consequence of the holocaust. Also, the Geni Tree is far from complete, and relies on individuals, like yourself , adding information.
Hi, Sandra,
I found that we are far related.
You must look in what is recommended in Jewish communities of Bohemia and Moravia. I also look in
http://www.holocaust.cz/en/database-of-victims/
there are victims of holocaust from Czech Republic.

Hi Sandra
You wrote that your father is not Jewish. Geni is not restricted to only Jewish ancestors.
Geni is worldwide. And if you do enter your father's side, and your grandfather's (from your mother's side), even if they or some of them is not Jewish, you will be able to locate more family relatives, and other people who may be related to you will also be able to locate you.
Hello,
if you want to learn something about Bohemian Jewish families, you can start here:
http://www.jewishmuseum.cz/en/e-shop-en/publications/
There are some publications in English.
And the Jewish museum edits Judaica Bohemiae, try to ask for some issue, for example JB XL (2004) with the article of Lenka Mutusikova:
History of the Jews and Jewish Communities in the Seventeenth to Nineteenth Centuries in Czech Popular Educational and Specialist Literature of the Last Decade.

Sandra,
You wrote "I can see the Rosenbaum tree but I don't know how to tell who the living descendants are. I would like to make contact with them, but how do I tell."
Living descendants will be "Private". With basic Geni membership it can be difficult to identify the names of such living people. Often it is easier to identify them by searching for names of their parents on Google.com.
Are you able to see this profile ? Her husband is your 5th cousin.
Erika Skala Rosenbaum
If so, I suggest you try to contact her, and request to "Collaborate"
If you can't see that profile, go to the profile of her husband's deceased ancestor (MuDr. Johann/Jan Skála-Rosenbaum (Rosenbaum)), that she also manages:
https://www.geni.com/people/MuDr-Johann-Jan-Skála-Rosenbaum-Rosenba...
Then click on "Contact Profile Managers" to send a message
Hi, to find the living descendants who have a geni login (so you can send them a message.
Go to the profile of the person ie Samuel Baroch Synek
Click on the number beside descendants - this will open up a list.
In the filters on the left, change "claimed status" to "claimed" and click search.
This will give you a list which you can then send messages to and collaborate with.
What I have found for a lot of these families is that families married families (ie two sisters would marry two brothers or cousins married etc) so it is very worthwhile to add in siblings and spouses of your direct ancestors plus spouses parents.
There are a lot of people on Geni who love a puzzle and have a lot of knowledge and access to resources - but they need information to start with.
Also the tree of the spouse of a sibling might already be in Geni allowing a merge that can give you more information.
Sandra Grohovaz, on the left under search results you should see sections
- Quick Search
- Names
- Filters
are the first 3
Under Filters - make sure the little box beside it has a - in it. If it is a + click on it and it will expand out and change to a -
- "Any claimed status" should be the first one and select the drop down arrow and select "claimed"
Go to the bottom of the menu on the left and click "Search"
