Online, the Hatfields are associated with the line of Hans J Smidt from Delacarlia, Falun, Sweden. Sometimes, people throw in the middle name of George. They all say it's well documented with family bibles and stuff, but I dunno. I know this Smidt line and my Smith line are not the same. The SmithsWorldWide.org project has a Hans J Smidt line represented. They are Hg-I. I am Hg-R.
When researching my Smiths in Orange Co, NC, I know we had a Bennett Smith living there around 1810-1820 or so. He was from "Southern District". For a reason, I believe my Smiths were from the Haw River area of Orange Co, NC some time ago. Today, it is the area known as Alamance Co, NC.
Here is a pretty decent source for the Stalcop family linked to Hans J Smidt.

Here's a messy page (from about 1990 it looks like) that links Joseph Hatifled and an Ericus Smith.

There is an Andreas Smidt that, I believe, is incorrectly referred to as Andrew Smith in some web pages.
When I research my Smiths in Kentucky, I find that a General William Smith was born in Glade Hollow, Russell Co, VA. My paper trail links my immediate line to an Andrew Smith who was a likely brother of this General William Smith, but I have found that most online sources say that the Andrew Smith from Russell Co, VA around 1765 or so was the one that married Rachel Hatfield. So, I'm trying to sort that out.
I also know that my Smiths had an "Elisha" Smith in the group. He may have been referred to as "Eli" in some cases, but I'm not sure. There is an "Eli Smith" associated with the Andrew Smith of Russell Co, VA who was related to Ephraim Hatfield.
Tonight, I've done some meticulous organizing of my AncestryDNA matches and have once again come across the Hatfields. I need help sorting it out. Thanks.
