William Frederick is the one born 1847, son of Edwin and Christine.

William (no Frederick) is born 1835 son of Alice but not Edwin as Edwin was on Norfolk Island when William was conceived.

I've always been a bit confused about this area of the tree, I think there may have been uncertainty about the name being william frederick or just william for 1835. And Alice Clark being a busy lady with men over her life, there's so much to get confused with.

it was a very hard time for women in the early 1800's - they pretty much had no rights and with her husband in jail and with small children to feed she would have been in a very difficult position.
