<<< The so-called Hough-Lowry gang >>>
* Outlaw Billy Thompson ~> pulled out of a Lake County Oregon jail and lynched
* Charles Hough, outlaw ~> shot by a sheriff in the CoppersmithHills above Surprise Valley
* Outlaw Jeff Lowry ~> escaped death
Several California papers went on and on about these men. They weren't always accurate.
Other people involved:
* Sheriff Charles Christopher Rachford = shot Charley Hough dead
* Rollin Wilson Hough = Charley Hough's father
* Coffee child, accidentally shot = too young to be handling a gun
* Lydia Lowry Lydie Philpot was able to keep her husband hid until the controversy blew over.
This was also a story where the Maidu, Pitt River and Wintun tribes were involved as two of the three members of the Hough-Lowry gang were part Native American.... There may have been others...
As I went through the building of these profiles, I attached documents and stories from various sources. Many counties of Northern California were involved: Plumas, Lassen, Modoc, Sierra, Trinity, Shasta... and of course, Lake Co., Oregon
I'm using this discussion to make summaries.
