QUESTION:
IS THE SON WILLIAM HERE
KNIGHT WILLIAM ???
SON of William Ruthven, 1st Earl of Gowrie 4th lord of ruthven ???
NO, I think Anne (the curator) and Neal determined that "ruffin" line isn't "Ruthven"
- however, i'm looking to see if it runs into a 'higher' level of stewart / and, i';ve not gotten that far in research - we have matched John Ruthven, in Canada, Ontario - who went to the usa, I have found his gravestone, and, it matches our date of birth for him - in the cdn records - plus I got copies of his service / etc., this is a big one; as; a lot of people thought he connected to maybe; ruffin ?
Neal, Anne and Myself - have documents to prove up to here

on the Ruffin discussion - but; information there still needs to be expanded
and, checked - and; then profiles launched for proper people !!!
from 1600 TO current date
(however; there were records I found of Ruffin going into 1200's)
I will post those to the Ruffin thread
There is NO connection to RUFFiN and RUTHVEN, as per the geni curators !!!
I launched approx. 50 documents to this profile
@John Ruthven, Music Master in Glasgow
- because they were NOT yet properly determined
as, to how they fit into the RUTHVEN lines
- so, THEY SPAN about 4 generations
-also, I was blocked to add them to the proper profiles
first question: I've posted birth certificates for john Ruthven, not sure why we can not determine which one; and; a date of birth (except; it could be; they only kept Christian - christening records ?) @John Ruthven, Music Master in Glasgow - there is approx. 50 paid for documents, some maybe duplicates ?
The so-called RUTHVEN ranch; was NOT spelled as Ruthven, but, as, ruhlven
- and, there is no proof of any of these RUFFiNs BEING related to RUTHVEN !!!
INFORMATION HERE: http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~jinks/genealogy/ruffinsussex.htm
also the plantation was NOT Ruthven (until later years,
it really was called Rulhven

for JOHN RUTHVEN (RiVEN)

For those of us who are researching things:
I found a lot of spellings for RUTHVEN
a few I didn't expect
The first of the clan to have held the title of
'de Ruthven', was Swan de Ruthven in the year 1211
Swan is a transposed spelling of Swein,
and, they held the lands of Crauford in Clydesdale.
(which is also CRAWFORD)
OLD LANGUAGE - RiVEN
Scottish: habitational name, traditionally pronounced ‘Ri-ven’,
from any of various places in Scotland so named,
especially one near Perth and one in Inverness-shire.
The place is named either in Gaelic (ruadh ‘red’ + mhaighin ‘place’)
or with a cognate of Welsh rhudd faen ‘red stone’.
