Dear Linda,
We are working on the same family. I was not able to find parents for John (I had 1688 Skye). I went to the local Mormon Library and tried to find Presbyterain Christening records, but could nail nothing down. I do know more about the early years of the family in NC. This was taken from a letter written by Miss Jane C. McLean to Miss Mary Coit, the date unknown:
Daniel McLean emigrated from the Isle of Skye to this country in 1771, landing in Wilmington, NC, on June 12, 1772. He brought with him three children, Flora, Angus, and John. One child died on the passage over and another daughter, Isabel, was born in this country.
John, the father of Daniel, came over two years later, (1773) bringing with him his two sons, Malcom and John. They were from the Parish of Strath in the Territory of McKinnon.'
Earlier today this John was deleted Justin Micah Faircloth as the husband of Mary McLean and father of her McLean / MacLean children.
I'm 'guessing' this was done in response to a discussion I started her her profile because she has several children with the surname McLellan attached to her but no husband by that name and I was pointing out that I only have seen info of one marriage for her and no children with the surname McLellan.
The solution wasn't to disconnect her husband but rather to findn who all those McLellan children actually should be connected to. If she was actually married more than once, who was the father of the McLellan children. Documentation for that marriage would be necessary because these McLellan children may be erroneously attached to a woman by the same name as their actual mother but not wasn't the woman married to John McLean.
There is evidence to support her marriage to John McLean and as the mother of his children. I have no idea how the McLellan children got mixed into this family. ???
I have reconnected John to his wife and children. PLEASE do not delete his profile again and assume that fixes the question of the McLellan connections.
