Joseph Cummings Sr. (1762-1853) was the son of Malachi Cummings II (ca. 1732-ca.1785) and Ann (Unknown) . He was not the son of Verlinda Taylor, but was likely a brother or a cousin of Verlinda's husband, Malachi III (ca. 1760-aft. 1820). Joseph Cummings Sr. (1762-1853) was married to Rosanna Medley in Henry County, Virginia in 1786. Rosanna was a daughter of John Medley Sr. and Sarah Casteel).
