Re William IKIN born 1808 died 1839

https://www.myheritage.com/person-1519318_127376191_127376191/willi... has a gravestone as a source. The image shows William IKIN who died Dec 11 1839 age 73 (or 78) years

The same source is also used for his brother https://www.myheritage.com/person-1519324_127376191_127376191/willi... William Henry IKIN born 15/10/1785 died 14/12/1858

Before departing from England
* Obadiah Joseph, born on 18 March 1782, baptised 24 March 1782 at Manchester Catherdal, England
* Marianne (Mary), baptised on 20 March 1784 at Whitchurch, Shropshire

* Mary Ann, baptised at St. James, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk on 18 May 1788

Maria, the lkins' first Australian born child, arrived on 30 December 1792.

On 19 August 1795 the Ikins' second Australian born child arrived and Thomas Moore Ikin was baptised at St. Phillip's, Sydney on 15 May 1796

Incorrect Ikin children

Jane Ikin born 1787 in England, died 1822, St Lukes, Liverpool, Sydney
Ann Ikin born 1804, died 1855, Camperdown, Newtown
James Ikin born 1806 in Sydney, NSW, died 1840, Parramatta

Jane Ikin, died 1822, Liverpool

At that time in Liverpool there lived a family named SKIN or SKINN and their surname has been confused with IKIN on a number of occasions and this is one of them. The online NSW births, death and marriages indexes lists Jane under Ikin.

I have a book put out by the Liverpool Council on burials in the first cemetery (St Lukes) and she is listed under Skin - died 30 June 1822, aged 35 years. Also listed is Charles Skin, died 20 June 1822 aged one year. In the online NSW births, death and marriages indexes, Charles is also found under Ikin with parents William and Jane. The same index reveals that William Skinn married Jane Host in 1815, and that Charles Skin was baptised in 1821.

James Ikin, d 1840 Parramatta

This man is a convict who arrived on the ship Camden in 1831. He received a Ticket of Leave passport on 28 November 1836 on the recommendation of the Penrith bench, see NSW State Records web site. The book General Return of Convicts in New South Wales 1837 lists James Ikins, aged 30 years, ship Prince Regent 1830, Cassilis, T of L. In 1830 the ship Prince Regent arrived in Hobart and there is no James Ikin(s) listed as being on this ship. Also the State Library of Queensland web site listing convicts extracted from HO 11 states James arrived on the ship Camden in 1831.

Ann Ikin b 1804 d 1855 Camperdown

I am reasonably certain that this is Ann Jones who married the other Ikin convict, Joseph Ikin in 1848, see the online NSW births, death and marriages indexes. Joseph Ikin arrived in Sydney on the ship York on 7 February 1831, he was 35 years, a native of Cheshire. Joseph married Ann Jones on 17 January 1848 at Windsor, NSW. They dont appear to have had any children. Ann Ikin died on 11 March 1855 aged 51 years.

Unknown Profile born 1808 cannot be their son as their son William William Ikin, Free Settler "Surprize" 1790 + Free Settler "Mariner" 1816 born 1785 was still alive and it is extremely unlikely they had 2 children called William alive at the same time.

I am working through all this step by step.
In your last item about William Ikin born 1808, it is interesting to not that the Gravestone on which his name appears is that of Thomas Frasor (I Think). Perhaps William was married to his daughter as shown above his name on the Gravestone?

Rod Skinner it would be worth researching the Frasor family to find the tie in to that William IKIN.

who are James ikins parents

You need to go to Thomas Thorne's web site as he has a full history of the Ikin family and has also written a book

Do you mean James Ikin - the convict who arrived on Camden in 1831?

According to https://www.freesettlerorfelon.com/convict_ship_camden_1831.htm he had an uncle Joseph IKIN living in the colony

According to https://convictrecords.com.au/convicts/ikin/james/122602 he was born in 1806, convicted of stealing at Chester Quarter Session on 18/10/1830 and sentenced to 7 years, and arrived in New South Wales on 25/7/1831, married with 2 daughters

No parents are noted that I have seen so far.

what I cant figure out is that obadiah was an only chilld and was in Australia in 1806 so Joseph cannot be James uncle as all the children that obadiah and sarah had came to Australia on the surprise... in 1780 - 1790 and then had 2 more children in Australia ...and there is no son named james in obadiahs children

There was more than 1 family in Australia with a surname of IKIN.

Obadiah Ikin and Sarah Butts are direct Ancestors of My Grandmother, Jessie Darling Skinner (Born Ikin) whose Father was James Ikin, Born 1832, who was Son of Thomas Moore Ikin, Born 1895.

Some of my source info I have found from Matches in MyHeritage Family Tree, but I have found there are many inconsistencies among those records. Hence some corrections Leanne has made.

Ty but you may want to have a look at this web site it will set it all straight

http://grthom.info/ikinerrors.html

To Leanne, Though more than one family with the Surname "Ikin", descendants of Obadiah are very widespread through Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales.

Yes but there is no evidence that the convict James IKIN is a relative of Obadiah IKIN.

All that is currently known about him is that his uncle Joseph IKIN was in the colony - no more details is currently known about Joseph IKIN and therefore there is no evidence that Joseph is related to Obadiah IKIN.

What is needed is the addition of sources preferably primary to try to determine who Joseph and James are and what, if any, connection they have to Obadiah.

There was a Joseph IKIN who arrived in Australia on 7/2/1831 on "York"

He was also tried at Chester so perhaps this is the uncle Joseph
