Hi Robert,
It is stated on the Marriage entry of John Hobson to Maud Adeline van Lingen that he was born in Bristol England and that he was 26 years old on their marriage date 08.01.1908. On his death notice he is stated as 41 years old on 12.06.1922 date of death. On his grave stone he is stated as 38 years old. Probably the correct year is 1881.

It is a bit confusing, I have a suspicion that 2 persons were incorrectly merged perhaps?
The difference between 38 and 41 years old is a bit large, however mistakes did happen.
