They also misspelled Martha. Newspaper obituaries are only as good as the person who wrote it, and the typesetter who set it, and - if there was one - a proofreader. Obituaries are ignored by editors, because there were more interested in preventing slander or libel suits in story copy. Why? Because the subject was dead and couldn't sue.

I am trying to figure out the true pedigree of the Darnells. Laura Katherine Darnell is my true relative, but after that? The water is muddied because I guess EVERY Darnell family named a son George Washington in Illinois. Doesn't help that some census records are illegible, so I'll need to try to make the readable through photoshop manipulation so we can sleuth. Since you're a pro, can you start a project on George Washington Darnell? So we can sort which is which and who his father is? It bothers me that birthdates do not match, nor do his parents across various genealogy sites. I've started a jot sheet on what I have sleuthed so far, but need someplace to collaborate and share.
