Conrad Baay was born on December 30, 1913 in Wisconsin but seems to have spent much of his 20s in Washington state.

He enlisted in the Army in 1942 going on to serve as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne's famous Easy Company.

Conrad married Alma Baay (Scott) in Georgia. Together they had Almeta Fleming (Baay) who grew up in Georgia before marrying and moving to South Carolina. Conrad's wife died in South Carolina but was buried in Georgia. This suggests that Conrad likely resided in SC or GA after the war.

He died on October 21, 1981 in Sacramento, California. Neither how he died nor why he was in CA is known.

Name:
Conrad Marvin Baay
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 09 May 1964
Marriage Place: Kootenai, Idaho, USA
Spouse: Ann Hazel Heathers
Certificate Number: 04128

Ann Hazel Heathers & Conrad Marvin Baay are both divorced https://www.newspapers.com/clip/96471727/spokane-chronicle/ at the time of their wedding.

Looks like Ann Hazel Heathers was a "Brodeen" for her maiden. She married Norman Heathers first, Conrad Marvin Baay, second marriage

LOL, sorry I should have included a link! Conrad Marvin Baay

I have no idea what a "Brodeen" is.

Ooooh, Brooden is her birth surname!

Ann Hazel Brodeen Heathers Baay died May 1993 in Sequim, Washington.

So maybe Alma Scott Baay lived in SC due to her SIL's family being there, while Conrad a divorcee moved back to WA via Idaho and married Ann en route?

Hmmm, is there some odd legal reason why two people from WA would get married in IDaho?

I had to google Idaho to see that it is next to WA so I guess there is some legal issue at play given the number of marriages listed that involve WA residents.

Yes, Alex Moes that's just what I was thinking!

Idaho seems to be a "continuation" of eastern Washington. Many of my own relatives went back & forth - across the border.

Isabel "Isa" Partrick Scott

This paternal great (although born in Napa) ......... was all over eastern Washington along with her sister
Arabella Alberta Sherrod

My paternal line smacks of "SAGA". Many tragedies, deaths & divorces. The oldest grave in that line is Esther Erwin is your third great grandmother.

→ Roger Sheldon Scott
your father → Charles M "Don" Scott

Conrad Marvin Baay also spent some time in Clallam county (Olympic Peninsula) Washington.
He "got around."

Haven't run across a divorce record yet between Conrad & Alma (first wife).

Ann Hazel Heathers is living with her husband , Norman Alfred Heathers , in the 1940 US Census and also in the house is her sister, Ester Brodeen. So this seems to align with what we expect.

Things got a bit confusing because Ann's father died just days after she was born and her mother remarried a few years later so Ann grew up in the Carlson household not Brodeen.

Just to muddy the waters slightly more, Ann's father "Andrew" must have had a previous marriage also because in 1910 he has a 16 year old daughter named Florence but he has only been in his current marriage for 13 years and Ann's mother, Kerstin, isn't old enough in 1910 to have a 16 year old daughter.

Must is a strong word, it's possible that Florence is a younger sister of Andrew that the census taker has mistakenly noted as a daughter, or some other relative.

They are together is 1955: https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-10705-204674769/conrad-m...

But Almeta's obit says she "was a graduate of Toccoa High School" in GA.

So being 12 years old in WA in 1955 and 18 years old in GA in 1961 suggests the parents divorce between those two dates.

I've just noticed that Conrad's WWII enlistment has him as a married man, this is almost exactly 1 year before Almeta is born.

Which explains why her SSDI is for Ann _Heathers_ not Ann Baay.

Well I've exhausted myself trying to find any records for Conrad pre-1940, it's very frustrating.

Cast a wide net with various spellings but cannot find any likely suspects for a young Conrad nor close family members either.

Okay
