Angus Dyson, a resident of Bladen County, North Carolina enlisted in the Confederate Army on 01 July 1863 as a Private. He was a Substitute in Company C, 1st Battalion, Heavy Artillery Regiment, North Carolina on 01 July 1863 and was wounded on 30 November 1863. Company C participated in the Battle of the Wilderness which was fought on May 5-6, 1864. The armies held their positions on the field until May 7, and some historians consider that the third day of the battle. But there was little fighting. It was the first battle of Grant’s 1864 Overland Campaign. Angus was Mustered out on 30 May 1864 with Distinguished Service Cited.
