I finally have received a very well documented 18 page well-researched paper by Deborah B Nelson, a member of the Old Tryon Genealogical Society, Old Tryon County, NC. on the Drury Grissom family of NC.

Because the Drury Grissom tree is in a terrible mess; now we have proof that Drury Grissom only had 1 wife, named Mary. (Currently, there are several wives & an incredible number of children on the tree).

Because this research is so compelling, I have added it to Drury's 'about' section & highlighted it for all who are interested in knowing the truth of this family.

I am not real sure just how to start this re-do of the existing tree; however, any Curator who has a need for such a project is more than welcome to join in.

Drury D Grissom

Thanks for reading this & all volunteers are welcome!

I’m happy to help sort the tree, if a list of wife and children can be generated.

Thanks! I will work on that list for you..

Here she goes:

Drury Grissom (NO middle name) & wife, Mary, (MNU).

Children:

William Grissom, b 1775-1784
Milton Grissom, b 1785-1790
Rowland W Grissom, b 1775-1790.
Thomas Grissom, b 1785-1790.
Benjamin Grissom, b 1775-1794.
Moses Grissom, b 1791-1794.
Phillip Grissom, b1795-1800.
James Grissom, b 1791-1800.
Milton W Grissom, b 1801-1806.
Mary Grissom Glen, b 1785-1794.
Sophia Grissom Bell, b 1785-1790.
Hannah Finniger Grissom Rogers, b 1785-1789.
Elizabeth Grissom Glew, b 1785-1794.
Sarah Grissom Slate, b 1795-1801.

These family members were all supported by various Fed. Census recordings & the researcher very kindly provided notes & sources on everything!

The ladies names do include their married names. Interestingly, among the 3 women on the tree (supposed wives of Drury); neither are named Mary.

Also, another member on Geni reached out to me during the summer & gave me quite a lot of information regarding her family, with the names of Griffin & Bernard, who lived in the same community as Drury Grissom & the Glen family. Her conjecture was that the Griffins & Grissoms might have gotten confused over time, and looking at the explosion of names on the tree, she might just be onto something there! I printed & kept all of those emails, so I have a reference there.

Sadly, Betsy is seriously ill & I pray that she will soon be better.

Thanks again for your generous offer. If I can help, let me know!

Erica, I disconnected the 3 wives then created a wife, Mary and set her as mother of all children.

Rearranging Carolyn's list of children by DOB leaves me regretting that.
The list makes no sense when you look at it in DOB oreder:

Benjamin Grissom b 1775-1794
Rowland W. Grissom b 1775-1790
William Grissom, b 1775-1784 (maybe William Grissom)

Thomas Grissom b 1785-1790.
Mary Jane "Polly" Glen b 1785-1794.
Sophia Bell b 1785-1790.
Hannah Rogers b 1785-1789.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Glenn b 1785-1794.
Milton Grissom, b 1785-1790

James Grissom, b 1791-1800
Moses Grisham b 1791-1794.

Phillip Poss Grissom b1795-1800.
Sarah Williams Slate b 1795-1801.

Milton W Grissom b 1801-1806.

Thanks Alex Moes for your help!

Not to worry about the dates of the children at this point; as I am painstakingly reviewing each of the children along with the data, comparing it with the data on the spouses & deriving a general dob that is more realistic.

This is going to take some time to finish, as I am almost done with William at present.

Thanks again for your help. It certainly got me going on this tree. :-)

Alex Moes - fabulous, thank you so much for jumping in.

I found myself on a Gedcom cleanup of my curated profiles …

Update on the Drury Grissom tree...

I now have the 14 known & named children in the best order that I can come up with.

There are 3 extra children, Drury Jr., Robert & Joseph that cannot be identified. I did not give them a birth # and they are at the end of the descendant line; in hopes that they can eventually be identified as to who they really belong to.

Thanks again for all of the support & assistance!
