Frances (Porter) Emery - Unlikely daughter of Nathaniel Porter

A previous message pointed out the problem with giving Frances' maiden name as Porter and assigning her as a daughter of Nathaniel Porter. I'm surprise this problem has not been corrected.

Fwiw, a note from WikiTree: "Frances is named "my wife Frances" in her husband's will of May 1660. Her surname Porter, as a daughter of Nathaniel Porter of Ipswich, is assumed from a publication of Judith Elaine Burns, titled The Revised Genealogical Records of the Descendants of John Emery of Newbury, MA (Baltimore) 1982, Great Migration states there was no Nathaniel Porter of Ipswich."

Even a little critical thought should tell us that a 1982 genealogy should not give license to "assume" she was a Porter, and the citation to Great Migration that there was no Nathaniel Porter of Ipswich, should be a red flag. Geni pushes the problem further back by having Nathaniel Porter coming from Romsey, Hants., but without a single source in support.

Judith "Judi" Elaine (McKee) Burns - is it OK with you to merge “1st wife” into Frances Emery

The Great Migration article mentioning Anthony Emery, Sr., of Newbury wife Frances (unknown) can be viewed on this Ancestry Sharing link:

Yes and if you read down into the 1982. It says assusumed or has been given as Frances porter daughter of Nathaniel. This was a combination of real search by several descendants of Anthony

I on cell phone can you go down in Anthony's and bold the section on Frances it in brackets says some days dau of. An no documentation found. My laptop will not load up grrrr. And desktop at. Culver house trying to get on laptop

I was able to go to Culver get on deskl op and bold and capitalize the info on Frances

m 2nd Frances PORTER [SOME HAVE STATED d/o Nathaniel Porter of Ipswich, Ma. BUT NO PROOF HAS BEEN BROUGHT FORTH to prove or disprove the statement; she is the only wife named for him, but she appears only in the period 1649-1660 and seems likely to have been a second (or perhaps later) wife and not the mother of his children.]

Anthony's bio was a combined project of many of his descendants - since he was very much neglected in the 1890 book -

It seems that people have read into the statement above what the wanted to believe -

I am not sure how they came up with deciding her maiden name - but t reading the full comment as written does not state she was d/o Nathaniel Porter only that some THINKS/THOUGHT that she was.

Judith "Judi" Elaine (McKee) Burns - the bold emphasis in Anthony Emery, Sr., of Newbury profile looks good, thank you.

Justin Durand - Frances Emery is now one person, without parents attached. Thank you for raising the issue.
