

Justin Durand (he/them) is a retired attorney. He has been doing genealogy since 1968 and was an early adopter (1998) of genetic genealogy. He is a member of Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Utah Pioneers, Mormon History Association, and Association of Professional Genealogists. He was a founding member of American Heraldry Society and Scottish Prisoners of War Society. Justin is an administrator of the Scandinavian Y-DNA Project and a co-administrator of the G-L497 Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA, as well as an administrator of several surname projects.
Justin is a 5th generation Coloradan, son of cowboy artist Ridge Durand and nephew of Lakota medicine man Pete Catches. He is also a 4th great nephew of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Justin and his husband Tim Johnson own Shining Lotus Bookstore in Denver.
