I visited my tree today and there are entries of people that I did not add nor do I know who they are or how they arrived in my tree. I may have clicked on something to have caused this. I am new and not fully aware of how this site works. Is there anyone that can help? Thank you very much. John McCauley

Private User --- hello! On Geni, unlike most other genealogical sites where you can enter you family tree, we have one Tree, rather than many separate ones.

It's possible to have a separate tree, but only if it is VERY small.

Other than that, it gets merged into the big Tree by other users connecting branches.

Now, there may have been some mistakes -- if so, you can try contacting the manager of the profiles in question, or go on over to the Discussion forum -- pinned up at the top of the forum is a thread where you can ask for curator help.

If there is a profile that's been merged, or had information changed, you can see the history of that profile by clicking on the Revisions tab.

You now have thousands of cousins -- and that would be normal for Geni.

Anne, Thank you very much! This is most helpful. I am new to this and not website savy yet. I was under the impression that my tree that I generate remained in my profile with no outside merging allowed unless I chose to allow it. My tree is small to me but size restrictions are not known to me. Is there a way to prevent 'other users connecting branches? Someone connecting to my tree has deleted information on ancestors I found that go back to the 1500's. I may be able to recreate those folks. I am disturbed that there are now people in 'my' tree that I do not know nor want to track. I really appreciate your response Anne. Have a great evening.

You can ask for bad merges to be reversed — curators can do that — but if a merge is good, we don’t undo it. The connections are how the Geni tree works.

If there are connections which gave now been broken, see if you can follow your line on up the tree, to see where the break was. Then read the overview to the profile in question, along with any curators notes or discussions, to see if the issue has already been adressed.

If you believe the tree to be in error, you can contact the curator of the profile in question, if it is a Master profile, or start a public discussion from the discussion tab on the profile. Then, interested parties can discuss sources.
