There is no direct evidence that William (1739-1778) is a child of William Boren and Elizabeth Larkin. After a discussion of this matter with Kerry Ross Boren in 2020, he added William as a family member in ancestry.com with no sources.

HOWEVER, we might want to consider the following indirect possibilities:

COLLABORATON NOTES FOR JOSEPH BORING (1730-1775)
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/collaborate/L8W9-WK1

* RESIDENCE OF JOSEPH: Washington Co Tennessee land records show that he received a grant from the state of North Carolina in 1784 along with his brothers, John, James, and William. These same records show him as Joseph Boren Sr. selling his land in 1792. This grant was dated 10 Nov 1784 and is recorded in book 2 page 172. His name is spelled Joseph Barron. Joseph Barron Sr. sells land to Walker Barron on 15 Jun 1792, book 5 page 128. Joseph Barron Sr. sells land to William Ford on 9 Jun 1792, book 5 page 134. Birth place supposed from the fact that the Borrins (Borens) don't appear in central North Carolina records prior to the early 1750's.

*MIGRATION TO NORTH CAROLINA - WILLIAM BOREN (1739-1778) WOULD HAVE BEEN TEN YEARS OF AGE, IF CORRECT

"One branch of the Boren family of Maryland went south very early with Christopher Gist. These were three brothers, William[,] Charles, and Joseph Boring, who settled on North Hy Cc. Creek in Orange Co., North Caroline (now Caswell) prior to 1749. Christopher Gist, a relative of the Boring family in Maryland, and his son, built a cabin on the Yadkin River, now Rowan Co., North Carolina."
