I'm wondering if this William Columbus Gilbert is connected to the correct parents.

For one thing, he was born and died in Alabama, which his place of birth doesn't fit with the geography of either the parents connected to him.

Secondly, I'm a Strickland descendant and I'm working on a DNA match from Ancestry who is from

William Henry Gilbert, Sr.

who is a son of the parents connected to this William Columbus Gilbert, which is how I ended up checking the lines here on Geni. I have a DNA match to a descendant of William Henry Gilbert on this line:

William Henry Gilbert, Sr.

which is why I'm wondering about William Columbus actually being his brother. It's not impossible but always worth double-checking when parents have two children with the same name. In this case William Columbus Gilbert and William Henry Gilbert.

Thanks in advance for any documentation / clarification for the two 'brothers' named William Gilbert in this family.

I may have stumbled across the answer!

William Henry Gilbert was born abt. 1758. His 'brother' William Columbus GIlbert is shown born abt. 1792, quite a spread between siblings. None of William Henry's other siblings were born after 1765, so it seems clear by the dates that William Columbus doesn't fit with this particular family.

In looking at the siblings, however, I discovered that William Henry also has a brother Henry connected:

Henry Gilbert

Henry has no wife or geographical locations listed but does have a son connected. So back to the same-name issues of whether their parents had sons named William Henry and Henry as well. lol
