Harpin was named after his maternal great uncle, his mother Jane Davis' brother, Judge Anthony Harpin Davis 1798-1862, who changed his name to Davies to avoid confusion with another individual in the same district with a similar name.
Harpin was not married. He did, however, have at least one son with his consort, Harriett Washington. That son was Emlee "Fide" Fisher 1903-1987, DNA confirmed by shared DNA between descendants of Genevieve Fisher and Emlee Fisher
