Eliza was born in Lincoln county Missouri after her father, who was born in Campbell county Kentucky (in the portion that is now Kenton county) and he moved to Lincoln county Missouri many years before Eliza was born. Many records of the military duties of Jonathan in Missouri are documented. After Robert Mitchell died (shortly after the birth of their daughter Sarah Jane "Jennie"), Eliza merried in 1853 (per marriage record) in Pike county Missouri to Thomas Melvin. They soon moved to Greene county Ohio before their daughter Kate Alice (or Alice Kate) was born there in 1856.
