However, other blacks were living as slaves and semi-free.
One in particular comes to mind: The widow of Capt. Jan De Vries.
While Jan drowned on a voyage to Europe, when Kieft returned,
this left Lare Criolyo (also known as Hilary / Larie / & Clare ) as his and guardian
to the couple's infant son Jan II.

The purpose of this document however, is to isolate the eleven for ease of tracking their
histories.
I will give them an iconic <PHOTO> to aid in their identification.

Yet, there were other black men who were slaves that died before this time.
